Today we travel to imaginary worlds created by talented concept artists to experience battles, war and conflict.

This showcase includes three different aspects of a battle: the preparation before, the actual battle and the following aftermath.

The images are extremely dynamic and full of motion and are sure to bring back memories of similar types of movies or video games.

Even when the image represented is not threatening, pay attention at how the slightest detail can represent a silent gesture towards hostility or unforeseen violence.

Here are 50 incredible examples of battle art that we selected for your inspiration.

Compiled exclusively for WDD by Liz Fulghum.

Which ones did you enjoy the most? Please share your comments with us…

These are amazing pieces! Talk about talent. You can give these folks an idea and a copy of Paint, they would be just as brilliant!

Some nice artwork there, is one of them a cover from a Tom Clancy game?

I recommend checking out any of the artwork from Games Workshop, some stunning fantasy and sci fi battlefield images there.

Uninhibited glorification of war, what’s the point? If the war is by and far an experience that is a combination of fear and boredom that’s worst kind of mental torture for those that survive to tell about it. The war is hunger, fear, sleep deprivation, insanity, cold, loneliness, misery, pointless cruelty, devastation,… Something quite different than these pictures allude it to be.

    Sad, pointless crap.

I think this post should be titled “50 images from deviant-art that have ‘battle’ in their title“ While some of the pictures are pretty good (and others don’t), you might have found some better one, if you searched … well … in more then one place. Or at least for another keyword. Especially because much stuff from deviant looks the same and there are so many other great artists out there.

I mean you forgot Craig Mullins

Not only are these garish, they’re flat and totally uninspired. I have been following this site for a long time, and this is the first post I’ve ever seen that makes me not recommend this site to my friends in the industry.

Pointless, vapid, and a disgrace to the reputation webdesigner depot has earned.

    Hi Gustav,

    Thanks for the honest feedback.

I use all feedback good and bad to build the site in the best possible way. That being said, I don’t expect you or anyone to enjoy every single post in the same way.

We’re all very different individuals and as you can see from the comments here, some do like it and some don’t, and that’s fine.

In this particular instance the depiction of violence can be enough to make one person not like this and this would be a very valid point.

I respect all opinions and your feedback is certainly taken into account.

    Thanks again!

Thank you all for the feedback.

Although there were some negative comments, I concede that this post may not be suitable to anyone.

We’re in no way advocating violence or conflict, just to highlight some amazing concept art with emotionally charged scenes.

    Thanks.

I don’t think you need justify what it is you are doing here…

This work is great!!! This is a designer depot right?

If they can’t find inspiration from this and choose to instead argue what point it has, then like you say it’s up to them.

Great post I say! I’m very glad you I saw it.

I’m sorry, but is there any way to remove the third entry, “The Battle,” from this list? It’s a blatant case of shoddy copypasta using screenshots from the Dawn of War opening cinematic, (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cWnuxLbc34) and as both a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 games and of art, I find it offensive that it’s on the same list as some rather stunning pieces of art.
