Great article. Speaking as a designer, a well organized file structure makes a world of difference when updates and edits begin to roll in from your clients. It's also great a housekeeping technique all designers (new and old) should embrace. Speaking as a developer, understanding how the site will unfold and interact with the user is quite valuable.

Combine that with the ability to use a content versioning software (CVS), e.g., Version Cue, it then allows both designer and developer know exactly what changes were made and where in the design doc, as well as to the implications those changes may incur on the development side of the equation.

It would be interesting to see a multi-step tutorial that encompasses all aspects of the "Four D" process: Discover, Design, Develop and Deploy. I would be more than happy to assist in that endeavor should it arise. [insert shameless plug here]

Cheers!

I always did it like the screenshots. When you don't do that you will mess up big projects.

I really liked the Layers in this photoshop file and decided to combine it with the 360 grid system. You can download the file from here http://www.design-manchester.co.uk/web-design-blog/free-resources/free-photoshop-template-for-web-design/

Thanks for this great article! I've been fustrated countless times trying to figure out wth the designer had been smoking while making the graphics, sometimes I end up making a new file with real transparency and layers organized.. After over 8 years of webdevelopment I'm getting really tired of it :D
