I’m surprised nothing was mentioned about select >select color range as a means of selected a wanted area. Works really well for extracting something from a solid background more precisely than magic wand for sure!

Good tips - very useful.

However, perhaps you should be aware of the Dos and Don'ts of apostrophe usage.

Great collection of techniques!

Fyi, for color correction, I personally find it most helpful to do it in Lab mode - it appears that most people neglect this mode.

Tip: if you need to use RGB-only filters when you're in LAB mode:
1. Create a smart object with the layer(s) you would like to apply filters to
2. Edit content of the smart objects
3. Change content color mode to RGB
4. Apply away
5. Save and voila!

This works for things like if you want to check skintone using the CMYK mode also (I've known some photo retouchers doing it this way to check yellow / magenta values)

Cheers,
SML

Thank you. Some great tips for sorting out a shoot that went wrong!
These things can happen...
If you do have to do retouching, gently always does it and 'God is in the detail'!

My little tip of the day:
Never rely on a photographer who says "don't worry we'll sort that out in post"!
If possible, its best to get the shot in camera with no need for PS except for minor colour correction etc. Always do plenty of pre-production before a shoot, be prepared, be prepared, test shots if possible and check the pictures in detail on screen before leaving the location or studio.
