Although never fully intended as a CMS, WordPress is indeed one of the most widely used CMS in the world.

When working with some clients, you’ll often encounter difficulties training your clients on how to use it properly in order to update the content of their websites.

This is were the WordPress User Manual Plugin comes in really handy. This plugin is a very solid and professional effort by the folks at VideoUserManuals.

They created a very comprehensive video and online manual packaged as a WordPress plugin that you, as a developer, can give to your clients.

The plugin contains over 30 video tutorials and over 100 pages of instructions, always updated and covering from version 2.8 through 3.01 (and updated with every new stable version).

Here’s a bit more information about the WordPress Manual Plugin:

Each time WordPress updates, a new set of videos is produced to cover the new functionality and they also update the written manual. The plugin also detects the version of WordPress that you are using and displays the correct version of the manual.

The plugin is fully brandable and customizable, so you can replace the default imagery with your own, to give your client a better branded experience.

In addition, in the event that offer only certain pieces of functionality to your client, such as using the pages feature but not posts, you can turn off the specific video sections that you do not wish to show to your client.

    What a great idea! It’s a simple solution that makes a lot of sense. I like the fact that it’s a self updating plugin and goes through the basics with users, offering a value added service that could easily pay for itself time and time again.     Indeed I do spend a considerable amount of time getting clients up to speed in taking care of content on their WordPress sites. Some individual help would still be needed even with the plugin, but a whole lot less.

    This looks great! I dind’t even know this plugin exsisted. I have been creating tutorials for a lot of clients for a whole range of products but I have always found it a pain to keep the WordPress tuts up to date and extensive enough to make them as good as what I am seeing here.

    This looks really promising, especially the ability to re-brand the plugin and turn off certain aspects of the manual that aren’t relevant to the end client.

    I don’t think this would replace the need to provide documentation for custom extensions you’ve added to the core, but it certainly could save some time addressing the common questions and problems users face when being introduced to WordPress.

    The WordPress Manual Plugin looks pretty neat to me. I think it’s one of the most valuable plugins as a web developer.

    Basically it should go like this (I guess).

    You develop a website featuring wordpress for any customer and just install the plugin. After your job is done you show your client how to access the plugin and the tutorials and you probably reduce like 90% or more of the amount of time/work you’d have to do otherwise…like BEING the “tutorial” so your client knows how WP works :P

    WordPress Manual Plugin looks like a great tool. At work we are looking at launching 12+ sub-sites to our over all site. These will be managed by various departments.     This looks a great plugin. These guys really understand some of the difficulties in delivering a CMS to clients. Support (whether through documentation or over the phone) is one of the most time consuming aspects – that can significantly eat into any profit you might make.

    it’s certainly true that it is easy to underestimate the time you spend on making manuals and videos for customers that use wordpress. Even though wordpress is very easy to use (and to install) the large amount of options can sometimes be overwhelming for people who are unfamiliar with a cms.

    Using this plug-in would certainly help both my customers and myself.

    The reason we charge a monthly subscription fee is to cover the cost of updating the manual and all the videos every time WordPress is updated. So when WordPress launches new features, like the image editor, you don’t need to visit your clients and train them how to use it. We do that for you. With your logo on it.

    We think that will save you a lot more than one hour every month.

    And that’s well worth $24.
