Side project: Friends of Type

Friends of Type is the side project of designers Aaron Carambula, Erik Marinovich, Dennis Payongayong and Jason Wong. The project is an ever growing archive of original typographic design and lettering primarily created by the aforementioned.

It came to be in the September of 2009 after Erik sent Aaron a sketch but neither of them had any idea where Erik could post the design online. After the two discussed some ideas, Aaron bought a domain, designed and built a site, and the rest is history.

The four friends say that the purpose of their posts is to log ideas, express themselves, and inspire each other as well as their readers. I think it's safe to say that they certainly do a good job of the latter, as proven by this collection of some of our favourite pieces from the project:
