Gridless

Gridless is an HTML5 and CSS3 framework for creating websites that are cross-browser compatible, responsive, and have beautiful typography. It uses a mobile-first architecture with progressive enhancement and uses CSS normalization instead of CSS resets.

Wptuts+

Wptuts+ is the newest blog in the Tuts+ network, from Envato. It covers WordPress development and theming with regular tutorials and other educational posts.

Vectorian

Vectorian offers hand-drawn vector ornaments with Victorian style. There are two packs available: a free pack with 85 vector ornaments and 30 border brushes, or a full pack (for $57) that includes 930 vector ornaments and 230 border brushes.

Automatoon

Automatoon is a web-based animation tool that uses HTML5, built using a new technology called “CBT” or “Composition by Tool”. It’s free, though there are some premium features that cost extra.

Codeplane

Codeplane offers 2GB of storage space for Git repositories. The include a web interface or you can access everything from your terminal. You can have as many contributors as you want, and as many repositories as you can fit into 2GB. They also offer backups of your repositories, using Amazon S3. There’s a 30-day free trial and after that it’s only $9/month.

Miro 4

Miro 4 is the newest version of this open source music and video player. Miro will sync with Android devices, lets you purchase music and apps from right inside the app, and will download and play almost any video or music format.

flickrBomb

flickrBomb is a new offering from Zurb that will place relevant images from Flickr into your prototypes. It’s easy to use, easy to implement, and it makes it easy to change the images it pulls.

Dummy HTML Snippets

BlindTextGenerator offers a set of Dummy HTML Snippets that you can quickly and easily use in your website prototypes. Choose from Lorem Ipsum or Kafka text, and a variety of commonly used elements (including H1, h1, short and long paragraphs, forms, lists, and more).

UX Stickynotes

UX Stickynotes offers two different kinds of wireframing templates: pre-printed stickynotes, and downloadable templates. They have templates for various browser styles and for the iPhone.

Site Trail

Site Trail offers a website analysis tool that gives you insight into the traffic and potential revenue of competing websites. It also includes social media analysis, SEO analysis, content analysis, and more for some sites.

CSS Lint

CSS Lint will point out potential problems with your CSS code. It checks not only basic syntax, but also applies a set of rules to your code to look for inefficiencies and problematic patterns. You can select which rules you want to apply.

WebBannerLove

WebBannerLove is a gallery of web banners open for anyone to submit to, including designers, developers, creators, and banner fans.

AllYou

AllYou is a new website builder for easily creating online portfolio sites. It’s free for 30 days, and then $8/month after that.

Mosaiqy

Mosaiqy is a jQuery and HTML5 plugin that creates a mosaic-style photo gallery. You can configure how many columns and rows it has, and when a thumbnail is clicked on, the grid expands to show that image, with a nice animation effect.

TouchRetouch

TouchRetouch is an Android app for retouching photos and removing unwanted elements. It’s a good option for some simple retouching on the go, and is $.99.

Anytime

Anytime is an iOS app that helps you track and analyze the time you spend working. It’s useful for managing your project budgets in addition to basic time tracking and analyzing. Anytime is $4.99 through the App Store.

SketchBook Pro for iPad

Sketchbook Pro is a new iPad app from Autodesk. It’s a professional-grade drawing and paint application that uses the same paint engine as its desktop counterpart, making it a great choice for pros and amateurs alike (and it’s only $4.99).

Daedalus Touch

Daedalus Touch is a text editor for iPad that’s completely gesture-based and uses a paper stack rather than file lists and files. Daedalus Touch is $3.99.

ScatterBrain

ScatterBrain is a free note-taking app for iOS that offers simple organizational tools (like color coding and labeling) and reminders, among other features.

Reeder

Reeder is a new Google Reader app for Mac OS X. It has full Readability integration, to make your feeds easier to read. It also includes support for gestures and customizable shortcuts.

Pulp

Pulp is a new reader application for the iPad and OS X. It reformats your news feeds into a more friendly format for reading. The iPad app is $4.99 and the OS X version is $9.99.

Wren

Wren is a minimalist Twitter app for Mac OS X. It lets you compose and send tweets without getting distracted by your Twitter timeline. It includes link shortening and auto-completion of usernames, and is $4.99 in the Mac App Store.

Qwiki

Qwiki is a new, free wiki app, with around 3,000,000 topics that are formatted specifically for the iPad.

Carousel

Carousel is an Instagram app for your Mac. It lets you view your feed, popular and profile photos, has a variety of app themes, and includes support for drag & drop saving and keyboard shortcuts. Carousel is $4.99.

Color Kick + v1.2

Color Kick + is a new, free color scheme app for iOS. Version 1.2 has bee completely re-written and lets you create, edit, and share your color schemes.

Burvetica (free)

Burvetica comes in two weights and was inspired by the Helvetica and Burbank typefaces. It has a retro, hand-lettered feel to it.

Sucker Font (free)

Sucker Font is a decorative font with a vintage, rock-and-roll feeling.

Mangosteen (free)

Mangosteen is a retro decorative font with understated serifs and rectangular letters. It would be well-suited to antique-style designs, especially posters or product packaging, and looks fantastic in 3D.

Salvo ($140-$180)

Salvo is a family of sans serif and slab serif typefaces from Font Bureau. The twelve typefaces included come in various weights and styles.

Terital United OT ($65)

Terital United OT is a sharply slanted script font that’s highly readable and has an organic feeling.

Alphabet Soup Pro ($60)

Alphabet Soup Pro is a rounded, comic-style typeface. It’s a heavy font, with well-balanced letters.

Pickworth Old Style Pro ($60)

Pickworth Old Style Pro is an antique-style display font. It has worn edges and some interesting, minimal swashes on some letters.

Telemark ($100)

Telemark is a family of six monolinear slab serif fonts. They have vintage feel, reminiscent of the 19th century. In addition to the three weights, there’s an additional label style that makes it easy to create banners, cartouches, and pointers.

Berber ($95)

Berber has a hand-lettered look and was initially inspired by an untitled typeface, and was recently redesigned. It’s a very strong, confident sans serif font in two styles (text bold and caps bold).

Cala ($179)

Cala is a set of eight serif fonts with a contemporary look, despite the influence of Venetian Renaissance type. It’s stable in small sizes but also work beautifully at display sizes.

Bettendorff

Bettendorff is a display-style “Masthead” font with obvious inspiration from the 1900s. It’s specifically designed to make it easy to create cartouche banners and mastheads in moments.

Lobster 1.4 (free)

Lobster 1.4 is a completely-redrawn version of the popular Lobster script font by Pablo Impallari. It has improvements based on user feedback and an extended charset.

Sn Boldface (free)

Sn Boldface is a bold, squared sans-serif display font. It has thick strokes and finely rounded edges, and is a very expressive font.

Podkova (free)

Podkova is a medium-weight slab serif font with angled serifs for lowercase letters.

Sweet Sans (free)

Sweet Sans is a geometric font that comes in both thin and thin small caps styles.

Familiar Pro (free)

Familiar Pro has squared characters and bold strokes. It was designed based on the idea of creating a font metrically compatible with Helvetica, but better than Arial.

Kihachiro Swash (free)

Kihachiro Swash is a display typeface with a classical form and the sharp edges of phototype lettering. The swashes were taken from the logo for Emperor (a line of golf shoes) to give the typeface a Modern/Postmodern era look that offsets the historical base.

Phi ($29)

Phi is a modern geometric sans serif font, inspired by the Golden Ratio.

RM Sans ($130)

RM Sans is a family of 14 fonts, including 5 regular weights, 3 condensed weights, 5 outline weights, and an eco font.

Muli (free)

Muli is a simple sans serif font that comes in two weights, with both Roman and italic versions of each.

People (mostly) use apps because they’re useful, not because they look pretty. But that doesn’t mean you can ignore good UI design, or just slap together a generic-looking user interface. Good UI design adds to the overall user satisfaction of any web app.

Good UI design is, in many ways, similar to good web design. Principles of color theory, negative space, and layout all still apply. But UI design requires a bit more thought in many cases due to the interactivity it requires.

Visitors won’t just be looking at your site; they’ll be interacting with it, sometimes in ways you didn’t expect. It’s vital that you take the time to really explore UI design prior to embarking on a web app design.

Below are a number of principles and ideas for designing a great user interface.

Consistency is Vital

In user interface design, consistency between pages, functions, and options is vital. Users come to expect certain things as they use your program, and if those things change from one page to the next, it’s both confusing and frustrating.

For example, if on the home page for your application users navigate between pages with a top navigation bar, make sure that same top navigation bar appears on subsequent pages, and that the pages linked from it appear in the same order.

Other things that need to be kept consistent include your color scheme and general layout, as well as links to important pages that might not be directly used within the application (such as an account page or an FAQ).

Your Users Will Make Mistakes

Regardless of how carefully you design your user interface and how intuitive it is, your users will make mistakes on occasion. Sometimes it’s just because they inadvertently clicked when they didn’t mean to. Other times it’s because they weren’t really paying attention to what they were doing, or weren’t reading the page’s content.

In either case, it’s important that users can easily undo the mistakes they make.

You’ll notice on a number of web apps, including Google Docs, that virtually any time you do something, a link appears to undo the last action. On other apps, you might have to use a menu to undo an action, but the best web apps still make it easy and accessible to go back a step or two at any point.

Highlight Changes

When changes are made during the use of a web app, it’s useful to your users if you highlight those changes. For example, if your app includes a feed of information from a variety of sources or users, highlighting new content as it appears is a useful feature.

There are a number of ways you can highlight content. One of the most popular is to put a shaded background behind new content.

Other apps use icons to indicate new content. Whatever you decide to do, make sure the new-content indications don’t interfere with the readability of the content. It’s also important to make these notifications unintrusive, so as not to distract users who aren’t currently concerned with changing content.

TitanPad uses color coding to indicate changes made by each user.

Enable Keyboard Shortcuts

Not every user out there is going to use keyboard shortcuts, even if you make them available. But for the percentage of users who are used to keyboard shortcuts, not including them can have a disastrous effect on user satisfaction.

Think about the most common actions users will perform on your website and make sure keyboard shortcuts are available for those.

Make sure, too, that whatever keyboard shortcuts you use are logical. Certain shortcuts are already commonly used for certain functions (like Ctrl+Z to undo or Ctrl+V to paste), so make sure those continue to work as they do in other programs.

Choose the keys used in your shortcuts logically, so they’re easy to remember for your users. Make sure you also include them in any drop-down menus next to their respective actions.

Use Familiar Standards and Conventions

Widely-used applications have set certain standards for the way things are expected to work in an application. For example, people are used to seeing a folder icon for “Open”, or a clipboard for “Paste”.

They’re also used to having certain options and actions appear under specific application menus (creating a new document or file is almost always located under the “File” menu dropdown; copy and paste are almost always found under the “Edit” menu dropdown).

Think about established apps that do similar things to what your app will do, and look at how they organize actions and what icons they use.

If you see consistencies between various apps, you should seriously consider using the same or similar icons for your own app. It makes it more intuitive for users who are switching from another app to yours and will improve their experience.

Offer Personalization Options

A lot of web apps allow users to make customizations to their account. Some sites let you adjust the color scheme or upload custom graphics. Others let you rearrange the layout or what’s shown when you first log in. Still others let you create custom pages or similar content that displays the information you’re concerned with.

Think about the possible customizations that would improve both the functionality and the user experience of your apps.

Some apps might not benefit much from customizations, while others are filled with possibilities. Even simple things like allowing users to upload their own logo or change the color scheme or font to suit their personal preferences can have a drastic impact on user experience and satisfaction.

Highrise lets users customize the color scheme of their dashboard. Small customization options like this can greatly add to user satisfaction.

Use Tooltips and Integrated Help Messages

A lot of app developers include extensive documentation for using their apps, which is incredibly helpful to new users. But in many cases, this documentation is kept in its own, separate section on the website. In order to access it, users have to effectively leave the application.

While extensive documentation is still a good idea for complicated apps, incorporating tooltips and integrated help messages in modal windows or in a sidebar within the page increases usability for the majority of users.

It’s a seamless way of offering help while someone is actually using your application, which saves them time and makes the entire experience more enjoyable.

Use Tabbed Navigation and Buttons for Actions

Tabbed navigation has a number of advantages over buttons or text links. The most important, though, is the subtle psychological effect it has.

Tabs evoke using a notebook or binder. Each tab denotes a new section or topic. The same is true online. Tabs make people subconsciously think of physically moving to a new section of a site or app.

Buttons, on the other hand, evoke an action. Using buttons for things like submitting a form makes sense psychologically, as people associate pushing a button with doing something. So for optimal user experience, remember tabs = navigation, buttons = action.

Shade Everything Behind a Modal Window

This is one of those really basic things that sometimes gets overlooked. When opening a modal window, make sure you shade out everything in the background behind the window. This makes the window stand out more and eliminates distractions.

Use Relevant Icons and Labels

A lot of developers opt to use icons in their apps without labeling those icons. Other than the absolute most common icons, this is often a mistake and only confuses the user.

Adding in alt tags that appear when icons are hovered over isn’t a good solution to avoid confusion, as it still requires too much effort on the part of the user.

Placing labels next to your icons means they’re instantly recognizable. As users become familiar with the meaning of each icon, they’ll be able to more quickly find what they’re looking for, and until then they can easily see exactly what each icon stands for.

Another option is to make it possible for your users to hide the labels, though make sure the default option is for them to be shown.

Keep Things Simple

The best interfaces are as simple as they can effectively be. Don’t add bells and whistles for the sake of adding bells and whistles. If a function has a clear purpose, then add it. If it doesn’t, then don’t.

The same goes for design elements. If there’s a purpose to an element, then it’s okay to add it. But avoid adding things that just look pretty. They’ll only add visual clutter and confuse your users. Choose the simplest solution that gets the job done.

This doesn’t necessarily mean your app needs to be minimalist. But remember that most people use apps for their functionality, not for their design. As long as the design doesn’t interfere with their ability to efficiently use your app, then they’re unlikely to even pay much attention to the visual elements of the app.

Efficient Workflow

When designing a user interface, you need to consider the workflow of your users. People have predetermined ways they use particular types of software and particular apps, and you’ll need to design your interface to conform to those patterns.

For example, if certain actions are generally taken in association with each other, group them together in the same area of the app.

Study the workflow of a number of users to see what seems to be getting in the way of their efficient completion of tasks, and then figure out how to improve the UI to cater to their needs. In some cases, UI alone can’t solve these issues, but sometimes it can.

There are hundreds or even thousands of web apps out there with fantastic user interface designs. Here are more than a dozen to give you some ideas.

Shoply

Shoply makes it quite easy for users to delete, edit, or view products they’ve already uploaded, as well as to add new products.

Invoicera

Invoicera uses tabbed navigation and buttons to perform actions. It also keeps a relatively simple and straight-forward layout and color scheme.

Pandora

It’s obvious that the designers behind Pandora took into account the interfaces present on MP3 players and other media devices in designing their user interface. It’s an intuitive and easy-to-use design with virtually no learning curve.

Wufoo

Wufoo’s form design interface is about as intuitive as an app can get. Help messages are displayed when you start designing a new form to explain exactly what to do without having to leave the page.

Grooveshark

Grooveshark uses icons to help with navigation and functionality. Commonly recognized icons like the “play” and “skip” buttons aren’t labeled, but others, like the Home and Favorites icons, are.

Wridea

Wridea uses an intuitive interface that lets you edit anything just by clicking on it. They also use menus that only expand when you hover over an idea, which reduces visual clutter, and they let users choose between two color schemes.

Backpack

Backpack uses buttons for actions and tabs for navigation, making it more intuitive to use.

Remember the Milk

Remember the Milk uses tabbed navigation and buttons for actions. They also include helpful notations that mostly negate the need for separate documentation.

Ta-da List

Ta-da Lists keeps their interface as simple as possible. There’s no extra information, just the task at hand. It’s incredibly intuitive and makes for an excellent user experience.

Relenta

Relenta uses tabbed navigation and labeled icons. They also stick to standard conventions for email programs, so there’s virtually no learning curve for their users.

Viviti

Viviti uses an intuitive user interface that takes into account the needs of their non-designer users. Tips are provided whenever you log in, and the documentation is easily accessible and user-friendly, allowing you to choose what type of help you want before actually leaving the page you’re working on.

Bounce

Bounce’s interface is very straight-forward and simple. The tools available are intuitive (just drag over an area to make a note, write feedback, and then share).

Meetifyr

Meetifyr uses such an intuitive interface that virtually no documentation is needed. Looking over the app, it takes only seconds to instantly recognize both how to use it and what the different icons and color codes mean.

DoingText

DoingText simplifies use by not requiring any type of signup process. Documents are simply URL-based and collaborators only need the URL. It makes collaboration an almost-instantaneous process.

Writeboard

Writeboard includes useful styling help in the sidebar next to the main content area.

Muro

DeviantART has long been an excellent place for artists and designers to showcase their work. Now, they’ve released a browser-based drawing app, created in HTML5. Initial reviews seem positive, and it’s free to use.

Google Font Preview

If you use Google’s Font API, it can be helpful to try out fonts before embedding them in your website. Google recently launched their Font Preview that lets you do just that. You can switch fonts from within the Preview app, and modify them in a number of ways on customized text.

Periodic Table of the Elements

This chart, created by Josh Duck, showcases the 104 elements currently in the HTML5 working draft and two proposed elements (marked with an asterisk). It also includes a tool for looking at how the elements are used on existing websites. Click on any element in the table for a brief definition and links to further information.

iMockups for iPad

This iPad app lets you create rough sketches perfect for rapid wireframing and brainstorming. The mockups are low fidelity so that designers can concentrate more on functionality and flow, rather than making things look “pretty”. The downside is that it’s not a free app (it’s $9.99).

Invoice Bubble

Invoice Bubble is a free, professional invoicing app that lets you create one-time or recurring invoices, complete with PayPal payment integration. The free version does include ads and a link back to Invoice Bubble, but for $5/month you can have both those things removed. It also tracks your invoices, lets you create estimates, and shows you how much you’ve been paid and how much is still outstanding.

TinyBounce

TinyBounce lets you save a screenshot of an image, create notes for feedback on it, and then send the link to others. It’s a tiny app, created as part of 10K Apart.

ColorBlendy 2

Here’s another app created as part of 10K Apart, this time for creating and finding the results of blending colors. Just choose two colors, and then the effect you want to simulate to get the resulting hex code.

Selectivizer

Using CSS3 pseudo-classes is great if you don’t care about your pages showing up the way you want them to in Internet Explorer 6-8. Selectivizer is a JavaScript utility that automatically emulates the pseudo-classes you want to use. Just add the script to your pages and it does the rest.

UNicod Sans Font Family

UNicod Sans is a new font family from Mostardesign. It’s a modern, slightly-rounded sans serif typeface with five weights. There are versions for both text and headlines.

Gridulator

Gridulator lets you create pixel guides for grid design, in any configuration you want. Just put in the overall width and the number of columns and it will spit out a variety of grid templates with varying gutter widths.

Keynotopia Wireframing Set

If you’ve considered creating wireframes and prototypes, then this wireframing template set from Smashing Magazine will make your life much easier. It includes a variety of web application elements, as well as a tutorial for using Keynote for prototyping.

Primary

Primary is a CSS Framework that consists of 22 layouts, and is based on the concepts in “22 Panels That Always Work” by comic book artist Wally Wood.

User Interface Design Framework

This GUI design kit includes hundreds of vector elements for interface design in Adobe Illustrator. There’s a library of 200 styles, 260 vector icons, and more.

Fan Script

Here’s a new script font by Umbrella Type, available from Veer. It includes more than 1000 glyphs, and was inspired by the fonts used in classic sports paraphernalia.

Antetype

Antetype is a new prototyping application currently in private beta. It includes a number of tools not commonly found in most wireframing and prototyping apps, including the ability to apply styles to your prototypes with a single click.

Anchor Font Family

Anchor is a new rounded sans-serif typeface from Process Type Foundry. It was designed specifically to work in cramped spaces and includes four different weights.

Patternry

Patternry, formerly known as UI Pattern Factory (it’s been completely revamped) is an excellent source to find specific user interface pattern examples. It’s a good place to go for inspiration or to find examples of existing patterns.

Fillerati

Fillerati is a filler text generator that uses text from books in the public domain (from Project Gutenberg). You can grab heading, paragraphs, list items, and plain text. The interface is particularly nice for such a utilitarian app.

Web Wireframe Kit

Here’s a stylish wireframe kit from Emazekraker, which includes both light and dark versions of each element. It includes base colors, tables, tooltips, buttons, form elements and more.

Forza

Forza is a beautiful, modern, squared sans-serif typeface from Hoefler & Frere-Jones. It was designed for Wired. It comes in a variety of weights and styles.

Paper Browser

Paper Browser is a paper wireframing template you can download and print out. The templates are sized at 1024 x 768 pixels, and come in two versions: Quick Sketch and Browser Sketch. They’re also releasing printed, notebook versions of both that are currently available for pre-order.

Wazala

Wazala is a new ecommerce platform that can be used with any website or blog. It’s great for non-programmers, and can be used with up to five products for free. Paid plans start at $9.95/month.

Defolio

Defolio is a collaboration tool for sharing website designs with colleagues and clients. It handles version control and allows for visual comparison between versions, as well as comments on version updates. It’s still in development, but soon will be adding file synchronization, the ability to make projects public or private, and better archiving.

CSS3.0 Maker

This handy app lets you create a variety of CSS3 elements, including rounded corners, gradients, and shadows. You change properties using drop-downs and sliders, and it shows you a preview of what you’ve created. It also includes which browsers each element works in.

WebMadeMovies

While the WebMadeMovies project has been around for awhile, they’ve finally released an example video, making the entire thing a bit closer to being ready for wide release. It’s a project dedicated to open video with standards like HTML5 that will allow for more interactive and interesting video experiences online. Their first big project is popcorn.js, which allows semantic information to be added to online videos.

WebINK

WebINK is a new web fonts service from Extensis. They include fonts from a number of type foundries, including exljbris, P22, Rimmer Type Foundy, and ShinnType. Pricing plans are scalable, and start at just $.99/month.

WebHooks

Formstack has released a new feature for developers called WebHooks that make it easier for their forms to interact with web apps in near-real-time. Previously, there was a delay of 5-10 minutes before Formstack forms would complete certain operations because it required the app to check Fromstack’s servers. Now, new submissions are pushed to the app, resulting in virtually no delay.

Ember is a new site that lets designers share their design inspiration. You can share images, follow other users, browse what others have uploaded, and organize your screen shots into collections. You can save parts of a page or the entire thing, depending on what you need.

Dribbble

Dribbble lets designers upload small thumbnail images (up to 120,000 pixels, or about 400 x 300) of projects they’re working on. It’s a neat way to get a sneak-peek at what other creatives are doing and what their next release might be. Dribbble also allows you to follow other designers and what they upload.

Web Font Specimen

Web Font Specimen lets you test out how fonts will actually look on the web. Combined with browser cross-testing, you can see how the fonts you use with @font-face will actually appear to your visitors.

Launchlist

Launchlist is a complete checklist of things to verify before launching a website. It includes everything from making sure there’s a print stylesheet (and that it works) to making sure forms work correctly to verifying cross-browser compatibility, and you can add your own fields. Complete the report and then have it emailed to your client or colleagues.

Sensational Jobs

Sensational Jobs is a job board for web designers and developers. You can browse through full-time and freelance listings, and set up custom alerts via email and RSS for any desired keywords.

Endorse

Endorse lets users recommend one another for different skills. You set up an account through Twitter, set your own availability, and then start endorsing others. You can then look through the recommendations of others if you need to find someone skilled in a certain area.

Glass

Glass lets you add notes over the content of any website, which you can then share with others. It’s currently in private beta, but invite codes are available on a regular basis (and existing members can invite new members).

Cu3er

Cu3er is a Flash 3D image slider. There are a few different options available and you can create your own quickly and easily.

The Wallee

The Wallee is a hard case for the iPad that also allows for wall mounting. It comes in a variety of colors and you can purchase multiple wall plates to allow mounting in more than one location.

FontFonter

FontFonter lets you see what different Web FontFonts look like on almost any website. Just type in a URL and then select which fonts you want to replace the serif and sans-serif fonts on the site.

Microsoft WebMatrix

WebMatrix is a new app from Microsoft for web design and development. It’s a complete testing environment that doesn’t require you to set up a server, and includes both a code and database editor. It will even work with popular CMSs like WordPress and Drupal.

CloudApp

CloudApp lets you share links, music, images, files, and videos right from a menubar. Just drag what you want to share to the menubar and CloudApp gives you a short link, automatically copied to your clipboard that you can then share.

OpenStack

OpenStack is open source cloud computing software that lets any organization create and offer cloud computing capabilities. It’s licensed under the Apache 2.0 license, meaning anyone can run it, build on it, or submit changes to it.

Anologue

Anologue is a new way to chat with people online. You set up a “chat room” and share the link with whoever you want, and you can chat with an unlimited number of people (within reason). It’s like combining the best parts of IRC, instant messaging, and comments.

PadPressed

PadPressed is a plugin that makes your WordPress-powered blog look like a native iPad app. It adds functionality for iPad users that makes your blog function more like a native app, while still working with your current theme.

Catch404

Catch404 is a jQuery plugin that catches 404 errors before loading a new page and returns the result in a modal window. It improves usability for your visitors, as they don’t have to use the back button to get away from a broken link.

AJ Help Desk

AJ Help Desk is a new customer support app with tons of useful features, including a knowledge base, support for PDF guides, and user forums.

The Inspiration Blog

The Inspiration Blog is a great resource if you’re feeling uninspired for your latest project. They post regular roundups of inspiring images, both related to design and not.

CSS3 PIE

CSS3 PIE (Progressive Internet Explorer) adds support for a number of CSS3 decorative features for Internet Explorer 6-8. It includes support for things like rounded corners, gradients, and shadows.

Fake

Fake is a new browser for OS X that lets you automate repetitive web tasks. It’s built on the same browser technology behind Fluid, and uses AppleScript for all of its automation tools.

resizeMyBrowser

This is a simple site that lets you resize your browser window to popular sizes for web devices with a single click. Included are resolutions for things like the Nexus One, the iPad, and the iPhone 4G, as well as common laptop and computer screen resolutions.

App Inventor for Android

Google came out with their new App Inventor software to help non-developers create Android apps. That means you can roll your own apps painlessly, custom-tailoring them to do exactly what you need. You can also use App Inventor to create apps for public release.

PandaForm

PandaForm is a new web form creator that lets you create and share forms in minutes. It lets users submit updated forms, too, which is something many form creation services don’t provide for.

Urlist

Urlist lets you create lists of links that you can then share with others. It saves time when you want to share more than one link at a time. They also offer a bookmarklet for adding items to your lists.

iFontMaker

iFontMaker is a font editor specifically for the iPad. It lets you create handwriting fonts in minutes, and then convert it to TTF for use in other programs.
