Tarantinoing an iPhone app

Tarantinoing Our First iPhone Application discusses the process of building an iPhone app in relation to how director Quentin Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Specifically about how creative burnout on one project can lead to switching gears and starting another project, resulting in two great offerings when all is said and done.

Behind the scenes of Google's Santa Tracker

Case Study: How we built the scenes on Google Santa Tracker goes over exactly how the team at 14islands created the scenes that formed the backdrop of Google's Santa Tracker website (a Christmas calendar with 24 interactive scenes, 9 of which were designed by 14islands). It's a fascinating look at a fun project.

The future of web design in 2014

Collis Ta'eed's 2014 Predictions for Web Design is a great take on what web designers might have in store for us in the coming year. He covers the future of flat design, motion and animation on the web, WordPress, and much more. Plus, he offers up links to some other interested prediction pieces at the end.

Email reminders for reading

ReRead is a handy app that will remind you to re-read those important articles at a pre-determined later date. Just enter the URL and when you want to re-read it, and you'll get an email reminder on that date. It's meant for articles you've already read but found useful and want to revisit at a later date, rather than articles you might not have time to read right now (like Pocket or Instapaper are meant for).

The downfalls of infinite scrolling

This comic about Infinite Scrolling from XKCD explores what the world would be like if books worked like infinite-scrolling webpages. It's a comical look, and one that begs designers to take another look at this oft-used but not necessarily user-friendly user interface pattern.

Liquid sculptures

Jack Long captures liquid motion sculptures at a speed of 1/10,000th of a second. Because of the technique's fleeting nature, it can take hundreds of captures before he is satisfied with a 'blooming' moment. Long's hard work pays off, apparent in his symphony of colors and textures seen below. See the pics
