What's new for designers, October 2012.

what's new for designers october 2012The October edition of what's new for web designers and developers includes new web apps, JavaScript and jQuery tools, productivity tools, UI testing tools, video editing apps, CSS frameworks, app building tools, and some really great new fonts.

Many of the resources below are free or very low cost, and are sure to be useful to a lot of designers and developers out there.

WorkFlowy is a note-taking and organization app. It mimics the way you think, allowing you to organize virtually anything you need to keep track of.

ThetaBoard is a real-time project management app for teams. There are free personal plans available, or you can sign up for a premium account.

GroupDocs

GroupDocs is a document management app for collaboration, sharing, and working with documents online. It makes it easy to organize, view, annotate, sign, and otherwise work with documents.

LazyMeter

LazyMeter is a to-do list app that makes it easier for you to focus on a daily goal and stop feeling lazy.

Magisto

Magisto is a free video editing app for iOS and Android that automatically edits your plain videos into beautiful movies. Shoot a video directly within Magisto or select clips from the gallery.

Haiku Deck

Haiku Deck is a presentation app for the iPad that lets you easily create beautiful slideshows to share. It includes a range of fonts, layouts, and image filters, as well as millions of free, high-quality photos.

AutoText

AutoText is a typing assistant that works with any software, similar to Text Expander. Just assign acronyms to your frequently used text snippets and AutoText will auto-type it for you.

Plunk

Plunk, from Zurb, is a new mobile testing app that lets you run click tests on images from your mobile device. It's free and to use.

tiltShift.js is a jQuery plugin that transforms your photos into tilt shift images using JavaScript. It works in Safari 6 and Chrome.

Bourbon is a lightweight mixin library for Sass. It's simple and easy to use with no configuration required.

Clearless is a collection of reusable LESS mixins, which aim to provide flexible, configurable solutions to problems addressed by the library.

Kube is a CSS framework for developers. It's adaptive and responsive, with a built-in grid and beautiful typography, but with no imposed styles and complete freedom.

Codiad is a cloud-based IDE framework with minimal requirements and a small footprint. It's still in development but has so far proven extremely stable.

Tooltipster is a jQuery plugin that makes it easy to create HTML5-validated tooltips. It's easily styled with CSS, without images, and plays nicely with IE.

enquire.js is a lightweight, pure JavaScript library for responding to CSS media queries. It has no dependencies, not even jQuery.

This site shows how popular websites, everything from Evernote to Facebook to Tumblr, make money. It breaks down revenue streams into advertising, subscribers, lead generation/affiliates, selling data, freemium, and royalties.

Brunch is an HTML5 application builder that's agnostic to frameworks, libraries, programming, and more. It watches your files for changes and automatically wraps your scripts and templates in common.js modules.

Paydirt is a free, easy invoice creator. Just enter your info and then save it, print it, or download it as a PDF.

Diamonds is an experimental typeface that incorporates geometric new letterforms which are easy to read but unexpected.

Hipster Script is a brush script that includes swashes, alternates, and ligatures. It includes two extreme widths that remain faithful to hand movement subtleties.
