Awesome list! I think intros seem to work better for portfolios. I like the Chris Hortsch intro. I like green and I like couches, so..win!

Inspiring stuff.

I agree with Rob above, the hello is too ubiquitous now (I especially don’t like the multi-lingual hello/bonjour etc) and could usually be dropped and the intro would still work fine.

This was a Cool list.. loved a lot of ‘em..
especially the footer at http://www.davidhellmann.com/ its too cool.. but not matching the header, i guess !

Nice list. These snippits are becoming less of a perk and more of a necessity these days

@Rob: Somehow, I don’t think people using Hello as a greeting, whether it be in text or speech, will be stopping any time soon.

Fun stuff! Just remember your audience when you write your intro. What are they after and what are their pain points? Let them know you are the specialist to solve their specific problem and say it in a way that isn’t vanilla without sounding like a personal ad.

Sure it does. Imagine you’re in the middle of the room. One time your staring at the wall you see when sitting at your desk, the other time is the wall behind your desk. Very nice idea! And the implementation is awesome.

i thought some of them were good and some were lame
some would really turn me away
which of these have worked for the designers?
i think some of them have done more harm than good
chris merritt for example, my company would never go for that, they click away immediately

Before this article, I thought I had to fix my intro. Now I KNOW I must fix up my intro. Big time. Most of those examples provide excellent sources of inspiration – color, imagery, wording and humor.

These websites are absolutely inspirational. This will definitely be getting bookmarked. Lets see some Flash Sites. =D

Great timing because I am reviewing my site in the next couple of weeks. Time for a freshen up.

I definitely think the intro could be very powerful if you can relate a couple of key points to your potential client.

After all, your site should be about how you can help them and how they are going to benefit.

Great list, don’t think I should be up there as my website is pretty dated now, needs an update.

I personally do think the “Hi…” “Hello…” “My name is…” are all overused, but then again portfolio websites are the only place you really see them.

The ability to wrap up what a whole site / company is fantastic, and a really useful convention.

Is Frederica Cau’s site a joke to this list? The logo is horrible, colors are bad and the background was downloaded off of deviantart.

I’m sick and tired of seeing the phrase “HELLO, blah blah blah…” It’s used way too much. But overall the designs are nice.

Anyone notice how they are all (I think) web designer sites? Anyone out there using a similar approach (direct, poetic, handshake-style) for clients with businesses in other areas?

e.g. Top of my head here (no claims to fame)…

Sleep on me – it’s bliss (bed company?)
Go hard, we’ll be there at the finish line (recovery drink for athletes?)
Dig deep, bite big (company that sells Cats and other construction gear?)

mind you… these read more like mottos I guess…
